Vincent M. Wales grew up in the small town of Brockway in northwestern Pennsylvania. During a decade in the suburbs of Philadelphia, he started the Polyamory Awareness and Acceptance Ribbon Campaign, which is devoted to de-stigmatizing the lifestyle of responsible non-monogamy.

While a resident of Utah, he founded the Freethought Society of Northern Utah, an organization dedicated to supporting First Amendment rights and presenting the positive aspects of lifestyles based on reason rather than faith, among other things.

He has served on the Boards of Directors of Northern California Publishers & Authors and Atheists & Other Freethinkers. He has been a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and volunteer suicide prevention crisis counselor.

He currently lives in Sacramento, California.
