K.J. Johnson

My name is K.J. Johnson. I’m a military brat originally from Albany, NY. Both of my parents were Active Duty and served the U.S. NGB for 20+ years each. As far as military families go, we were lucky enough to only move once. In 1999, we moved to Virginia where I grew up. I explored many hobbies ranging from dance to martial arts. In fact, I studied Taekwondo for about 6 years until I earned my 2nd Dan Black Belt. And although I enjoyed these activities, writing is a passion that has spanned most of my life. Starting in elementary school, I would write short stories for my teachers whenever I was bored (never mind that they were probably terrible). As I got older, I delved into poetry. I wrote mostly free verse poems and would read them at my parents’ promotion ceremonies to celebrate their respective rise through the ranks.

Once I realized that I wanted to develop my craft, I studied creative writing in school. Back in 2011, while living in Atlanta, I began writing my first novel (Ember Awakening: Volume 1 of The Kirabo Lawless Trilogy). It took a few years, and a lot of drafts, to finish but I finally published it as an e-book in December 2015. You can visit my blog for a list of online outlets that currently list it. My blog also includes sample chapters from the book, as well as my other work. As of now, I am editing the second volume and writing the third to make the full trilogy available in both e-book and hard copy formats. I look forward to sharing my work with you and connecting with fellow authors and readers.
